Usually, I delete books from my kindle as soon as I'm done reading them, whether they are good or bad. I like to keep my kindle "clean" so to speak. I finished this book weeks ago, and I've left it on there. I find my mind going back to this book again and again. This is the story of a young woman who is kidnapped by a man and eventually falls in love with him. It is told from the first person perspective, which can be tricky, but it works really well here. I've read a number of books where I've said or others have said "that woman has Stockholm Syndrome". To be in the character's head while it was happening was so key. It made it very believable and authentic. I felt like I experienced the emotions and events with her.
This book is very detailed and kind of slow in some areas. At first, I wanted things to move along faster, but then I understood that the level of detail was necessary in order for see things developing over time, even though it's not that long of a time period. I didn't feel that anything was rushed.
This story gripped my emotions. In the early parts, I wondered if it is was a horror story - the sense of dread and fear was that strong. But gradually, this way and that way, the author transformed that dread and fear into complacency, sympathy, acceptance and love. Wow. Well done.
So why 4 stars instead of 5? Well, to avoiding spoiling, I'll say, the kidnapper is presented oftentimes as being quirky, but I found that unconvincing in some respects. His "situation" was a lot more severe than quirky, and I feel that there should've been more dramatic episodes to be fully convincing. I also could not believe that he could have lived through the "epilogue period" without some real changes for the worse. Things were tied up a bit too neatly in my opinion. Was it possible for this couple to completely free of any dark element to their lives? Hmmm, I don't know.
I wondered if the heroine was mentally ill. I think I'll do more research into Stockholm Syndrome and think on that. It's so rare that a book sticks with me like this. Kudos to the author. I recommend this book.

Persephone edition by Lavender Youko Romance eBooks Reviews
For an alpha male he sure is a cry baby. Couldn't stand all the crying and guilt, he didn't even try to sleep with her. What?
Not what I was expecting but a fascinating exploration of two damaged people and an unexpected love affair. It could have used a little polishing in a few spots and the ending was a little rushed but overall, really well done.
The storyline was enjoyable. Wanted the story to be more detailed but I liked it just the same. I couldn't help but like August. He was so damaged it made you forget what he did was wrong.
I absolutely loved this story! It has become my favorite book, as I have never enjoyed a story so much in my life. I never put the book down and finished it in less than a day, while I wish it had lasted longer I loved it. I would highly recommend this to anyone who asks me and I have already told my friends. It truly was a wonderful story and I have a new favorite having read it.
This was a great book, once I read the book plot, I had to read this, it's a taboo subject. I was interested when she finally is released, would she go back to her normal life, or would she stick by the love of her life while he's in jail for her kidnapping. It was a great book, I had to finish the book in the same day. I would be interested in reading some more books by this author.
I got really wrapped up in this book. At first I was terrified of what he would do to her. Then later I understood it was his illness that pushed him over the edge into kidnapping her. He knew it was wrong but he could not help himself. I think he was very lonely. He was locked in his world of misery and finally found someone to share his lonely world. He showed what he was truly made of when he turned himself in to the law over her objections. He made it right in the end. I would have felt no sympathy for him at all if he had mistreated her but he didn't even though he kept her captive. When she first starts her story, before she was kidnapped, she tells about herself, how she wanted to be rich and how she loved art. This fit in with her kidnapper. They had something deeply in common. She had a deep love of art and music and so did he and that helped tie them together. Wonderful book. I am on my second time of reading it. I only do that with good books.
I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Firstly I just want to say that this book tricked me because I thought it was going to be about Greek mythology but I was wrong. Although I did enjoy the similarities between the two. I do wish that there would have been two POV's because I would have loved to get inside August's head and have gotten even more background information on him. This book drew me in right from the beginning and held my attention until the very end. It was a quick read and I got through it in good time but I wish there would have been more of an ending. I want to know where everyone ended up.
*SPOILER ALERT*
At the start I was mad at Persephone for not fighting back against August, but then he began to grow on me. And this may sound rude but her life was way better with him anyways, I don't want to downplay the whole crazy situation but she had chances to leave and she didn't. She was happier with him. And I don't believe that she had Munchausen's either, she knew what happened wasn't right but her love outweighed the bad feelings. I also kind of grew to like Marcel, I'm glad that he was there to support Elaine during her time of need.
Overall this was a great read and I want more of these characters and their stories. I would recommend this story to those who enjoy romantic, suspense stories. I can't wait to read my by this author.
