The Iron Knight Iron Fey Julie Kagawa Books

A beautiful ending to one of my favorite series. Julie Kagawa took me on an emotional roller-coaster as I embarked on an unforgettable journey with Ash. He does everything in his power to return to his Iron Queen, and along the way I was completely caught off guard with how easy it was for me to feel his wide range of emotions. What starts out as a quest for Ash, turned into me getting a look into Ash's past and seeing what shaped him into the person he is now. I loved the way Julie did this. She really allowed me to see and understand Ash a lot more. His path is far from easy, and making the right choice is often hard, but Ash proves once again that he has an inner strength that's not only admirable but commendable.

Julie continued to surprise me with her phenomenal plot line, and engaging story. I don't know how else to describe the way Julie sucked me right back into her captivating world. She has a raw talent for storytelling and while I didn't want this story to end, I could not have imagined a more fitting end than this. Be rest assured, Julie is FULL of surprises in this book. Half of things that happened are ones I never would have even considered and kudos to Julie for keeping all this under wraps! Fans are truly going to love what she has done with this series and the beautiful way it wraps up. While there's moments of bliss and happiness sprinkled through out the story, there's also uncertainty, fear, love, hope, regret, disappear, happiness, loyalty, friendship, jealousy and that undeniable feeling of completeness etched into it. Many of these things have been reacquiring themes through out the series, only it's amped up a lot in The Iron Knight.

I'll be honest, I missed Meghan for the first part of the book, but I loved what Julie did when she and Ash were reconnected. I loved seeing them fall in love all over again. This is selfish to say, but I liked having just Ash for a good portion of this book. Readers really needed to see his change and what he goes through to reconnect with Meghan. Fear not Puck and Grimm fans, these two beloved characters provide the perfect amount of witty comments this story needed. Mixed in with my tears of happiness and moments of worry, were also moments of laughter thanks to these two. The story wouldn't be complete with out them. I didn't think I could love Grimm any more than I already did. What a fabulous character he is. That wise old fur ball, though I'm sure he wouldn't like that if I called him that. One of the things I love about these characters is how believable and real they are. They're all far from perfect, they make mistakes, but they all keep trying and I love the way they've continued to grow as the series has progressed.

This story is remarkable. This quest with Ash will leave you in awe. If you weren't already an Ash fan, you will be after this. If you already were a fan, than you'll be putting him on a high petal stool. The story is truly beautifully written, and completely captivating. I am incredibly happy I was able to take this journey with Ash and I'm looking forward to a whole new generation of books from Julie. Thank you Julie for the tears, the happiness and the characters who will live on in my book world. Now hurry and go pick up the book so we can talk spoilers! Believe me, there is a TON to talk about. It was hard keeping this review vague and not mention the surprising things that happen.

This is an incredible, mesmerizing end to an absolutely brilliant series! I HIGHLY recommend picking up the series you've not already. If you have, I HIGHLY recommend picking up Ash's story TODAY!

The Iron Knight Iron Fey Julie Kagawa Books Reviews

It is always semi sad to come to the end of a series. To leave behind characters that you have become attached to and a world that you have immersed yourself in. This is the final book in the Iron Fey Series and it did a very good job of tying everything up.

“I will be with her again, or I will die. There aren’t any other options”

This is Ash’s journey to find a way to gain a soul so that he can survive the Iron Realm and stand beside the woman he loves. But what must a Faery do to be able to host a soul. The trials will be difficult and heartbreaking. I initially loved seeing the world from Ash’s perspective but I came to really miss Meghan in the story. We get a few glimpses of her but she is missing from the story until the end, for good reasons, but I still missed her.

Ash must also come to terms with the love that he lost so many years ago and his feud with Robin Goodfellow. I really loved Puck in this story. It is clear that Puck is very much in love with Meghan still but he puts everything on the line to help both Meghan and Ash so they have a chance at happiness. We also get to see the loss of Ariella from his side.

“You don't think I regret what I did, every single day? You lost Ariella, but I lost you both! Believe it or not, I was kind of a mess too, Ash. It got to a point where I actually looked forward to our random duels, because that was the only time I could talk to you. When you were freaking trying to kill me!”

Grimalkin of coarse has the key to finding a way to become mortal and will be going along for the journey. He in his great Cat fashion has a wonderful way of looking at the situation. It is often entertaining and slightly frustrating for the other characters involved. The journey is also joined by the big bad wolf of tales.
“I swear there must be like some secret code. All mysterious ancient temples must have a minimum of at least seven thousand steps to the front door.”
It is a journey of seven thousand steps or more. There are a few parts of the story that dragged a little for my and that was mostly due to the emotional angst that Ash was feeling. After being so sure of Meghan in The Iron Queen it was difficult to watch him waver. But in the end there will be no doubt as to who he is meant to be with.

I honestly only have a few small issues with the story but they are all hinged on wanting to see more of Megan and Ash together. This Journey has come to an end and it was a great ride. I look forward to reading the other series set in this world in the future about Ethan and get a peek at Meghan and Ash in the future. It was a beautiful tale with sacrifices, pain, hope and a love so strong it would go to the end of the world.
So, now we're on the fourth and last book of the series. And this time, instead of Meghan telling the story, it's Ash. Meghan doesn't actually come into it much. I guess the author found that difficult to do, what with Meghan being in the Iron Kingdom and Ash being forbidden to go there as it will kill him.
Objecting to this state of affairs, Ash is determined to do the impossible. So, accompanied by Puck, Grim and eventually a few others, Ash sets off for the End of the World to gain a soul. Yeah, going to the End of the World to earn a soul sounds really corny, but it actually, to my surprise, works. It is very well done and cleverer than I thought possible. It is a bit strange to hear the story from a perspective other than Meghan's, but Ash is an interesting narrator, and I didn't mourn Meghan's absence over-much. Because, let's face it, the interaction between Ash and Puck is one of the things that make this series great. And there is a lot of that here.
