I knew I would love Sin and was certainly not disappointed. This story grabbed my attention from the very beginning and never let go. Juliet desperately needed protection from her brother's "friend" and Sin was the one to give it. I enjoyed his two younger sisters and in the end Prudence came around also. Hopefully, Patrina will have a good story in the next installment. I really think it's about time Lady Beatrice gets her story. She's been in several books and is really a nice person. I would love to see her HEA!Tags : Always a Rogue, Forever Her Love (Scandalous Seasons Book 4) - Kindle edition by Christi Caldwell. Always a Rogue Forever Her Love Scandalous Seasons Book 4 edition by Christi Caldwell Romance eBooks Reviews
Ms. Caldwell's books have been getting me through a very difficult time in my real life. I need another world to get lost, and Always a Rogue, Forever Her Love fit the bill. Lord Sinclair rogue extraordinaire is the love interest in this book, he is surrounded by four vexing sisters and a mother who wants to see him wed, to a proper English Miss. But the Countess's hands are full as the youngest girls Poppy, Pru, and Penny have run off another governess. Plus her oldest daughter is making enjoying her season. So it is up to Sinclair to find a new governess and in stumbles Juliet Marshville, who is intelligent, headstrong and had a bone to pick with the roguish lord. The sparks fly between these two from the start, as the deceptive way they have plunged into each others lives colors their relationship. I adore Sinclair, but did not see what impediment he had to a relationship to Juliet. They were relatively on the same footing socially. I do wish the blackguard Lord Williams fate would be more succinctly explored, and the books revenge ending did leave me shaking my head. I expected more that just Juliet's brother waking away. I still question what was his motives if her did not follow through, as Juliet was returned to him but nothing happened. He still owed a large sum to Williams. I felt the author pulled back from making both unsalvageable. I would have preferred a more powerful ending as the book does start with an attempted rape.
This book was shorter than the previous in the series but I found that I preferred this length. There was no rambling along yet it wasn't too short as to be over too quickly. I've been waiting for Sinclair's book and it was a very nice story bringing in additional characters who will need stories soon. The one thing I've noticed about Ms. Caldwell's work is that she tends to reuse a lot of the same phrases over and over between her books. She isn't alone as many other authors do the same but sometimes I just want to buy them all a thesaurus. You can only hear a young woman's mouth described as a "moist cavern" so many times before it starts to grate. I'm nitpicking obviously and that should not dissuade anyone from reading this book. As always, the characters are a delight.
I've read most of the books in this series. They seem to follow a predictable pattern. Guy (generally a butt-head) meets girl (generally smart but shy and lacks confidence). They can't imagine marrying. But then they fall in love somehow. Then something happens to get in their way. Usually the guy does something stupid. They end up together in the end. They get married. In the epilogue, they always either have a baby or are pregnant. Also, usually one (or both) have had beloved fathers that are dead. And sometimes a mom who is mean and judgmental. I also think the plot moves far too quickly. Come on. No one falls head over heels in love with someone- to the point that they are hopelessly depressed if they can't have them- in two or three days. In addition to the predictable plot, there are so many errors in grammar and mechanics that it's distracting. Errors in comma and quotation mark usage abound, as well as mistakes with homophones. There are many incomplete sentences. I'd suggest the publisher hire a middle school English teacher to edit this (and all the books in the series), then re-post.
It's hard to ignore the tug of your heart. You can call it attraction and try to rationalize. That's what Jonathan Tidemore, Earl of Sinclare does when he meets the fiesty young Lady Juliet Marshville. Beginning with his first meeting, he rationalizes that what he feels is only lust. He isn't interested in love or marriage. It must be only attraction.
The beautiful redhead, Lady Juliet Marshville accosts him outside the gaming halls in the dead of night demanding that he return her beloved Rosecliff Cottage, a property wagered and lost by her lack-wit brother, Sir Albert Marshville. Lord Jonathan (Lord Sin, as he is called by his friends) refuses to return the property, but sees an opportunity for the possibility of a beautiful mistress and a governess for his four sisters with the beautiful Miss Marshville, so he makes her a deal. He offers her a job as governess. If Juliet can make ladies of his sisters, Lord Jonathan Sinclaire agrees to return to her the property and place it in her name. She accepts.
She is the fifth governess in the Tidemore household, if you count all of the ones fired before her. Lord Jonathan's four sisters consider it their mission to determine the weakness with their governesses- and move them out the door. He actually doesn't hold much hope that Lady Juliet will last. But Lord Sin fInds that he needs to keep her under his roof, for reasons he cannot explain. He even goes to elaborate measures to hide her last name- cutting it to "Marsh" -- to make sure that her brother's reputation doesn't hurt her chances. His sisters, three of them, accept her at once. The oldest one, Prudence, is not totally taken With "Miss Marsh" and constantly goads her with cruelty and biting comments.
Juliet finds herself attracted to Lord Sin. Jonathan insists that she call him by his given name, and he calls her Juliet -- at when they are alone, which seems to Juliet to be far too often. She scolds herself, and has to tearfully remind herself --more than once --that a woman in her station can never marry someone in his class. And now since she is now working as a governess in his household, that door has certainly been sealed shut.
Lord Jonathan finds himself thinking about the beautiful Juliet every time he sees the color red. His mind envisions the beautiful vixon, her luxurious red hair, her green eyes and her fiery spirit. He is 'lost' on her and cannot see it; instead, he talks himself into believing it is only basic attraction for her, sexually. But as time moves forward with the two living under the same roof, Jonathan finds himself becoming increasingly dependent on her presence. Juliet, however, realizes she has grown in love; she realizes she needs to leave the household- somehow.
Pandonium strikes. With only a month barely gone, Patrina is whisked away to Gretna Greene by Sir Albert Marshville, a man she believes she loves. Marshville is brother to 'Miss Juliet Marsh.' Patrina doesn't realize this is Juliet's brother. But Sir Albert only uses Patrina and her naivety to get back at Lord Jonathan. Marshville wants his sister to return home where he plans to use her for his own illicit needs.
When he returns home empty-handed, Lord Jonathan finds that his mother has turned Miss Juliet Marsh out. Sin's world totally collapses. He first thinks he will go get her, but he decides to leave Lady Juliet alone. He feels it is the kindest thing he can do for Juliet. But. one learns that no one can be certain of their future. And the heart wants what the heart wants.
This is another Christi Caldwell "wonder-tale!" She has proven herself over and over as an intuitive writer if regency romances, understanding exactly what her audience responds to! This is a lively story with great characters. The story moves so smoothly and quickly through its twenty chapters. The reader stays focused on the 'non courtship' of Juliet and Sin, right up until you (the reader) flips the last page and there it is ...the end of the book. "More, more," you find yourself silently screaming to yourself. What I enjoy about Christi Caldwell's books is that there will be more! Caldwell has created a 'village' of characters. If Lady Juliet Marshville and Lord Jonathan Sinclaire don't find their way to the alter in this wonderful story, Christi will surely bring them - individually- back to meet other great prospects. But the Sinclair family will surely continue with another adventure. The next story could be Patrice's story, or Penelope's story. It could even be Prudence's story. But no matter, I will be waiting for its release!
I knew I would love Sin and was certainly not disappointed. This story grabbed my attention from the very beginning and never let go.
