Wicked Ever After A Blud Novel Book 7 eBook Delilah S Dawson

I was really on the fence about Wicked Ever After and I ended up enjoying it more than I expected to. I went into it considering it more of an OCD read. I read Wicked As They Come 4 years ago and I really loved it. I wasn’t interested enough in the other characters to continue with the series though so I left it there. Knowing that Wicked Ever After was going back to the Crim & Tish storyline – I felt compelled to read it for the sake of closure but I felt too much time had passed for me to really get into it.

Wicked Ever After picks up with Tish traveling between Sang and Earth to play hospice nurse to her dying Nana. Tish must remain human to travel between worlds but she ages a week for every day she puts off having Criminy blud her with his immortal kiss thanks to her bargain with the witch Hepzibah. Then just when Nana is finally on the verge of shuffling off this mortal coil she happens to mention that Eric Northman from that True Blood TV show is a fine specimen and she sure wouldn’t mind him paying her a visit and offering to make her a vampire. So Tish gets the brilliant idea: use the witch’s potion to bring Nana to sang and have Criminy make her a Bludwoman and we’ll all live happily ever after. And it is kind of cute when Nana gets to Sang and proclaims Criminy “better looking than Vampire Bill”.

But then things go to pot when Nana gets bludded and all of a sudden she’s all “call me Ruby – I’m nobody’s Nana and I’ve got my own life to live”. I don’t blame Tish for feeling hurt and angry over being dis’ed by Nana’s see you next Tuesday act. I get being young again and seeing all the new possibilities but that doesn’t necessarily translate into losing all the affection, connection and loyalty that was supposedly shared over the years with beloved family members. Which is why when Nana…I mean Ruby…takes off to see the Wizard….errmm…the witch, Tish feels the need to go after her in case she needs saving. Because Tish - unlike her ungrateful, self absorbed Nana - isn't a jerk.

So Tish and Crim have an excuse to have another adventure, catch up with favorite characters from the other installments (who I know very little if anything about and it doesn’t really matter), have grand battles and sexy times in a hot air balloon and a wonderful HEA.

Wicked Ever After A Blud Novel Book 7 eBook Delilah S Dawson Reviews

This book wasn't bad; although it did not compare to the expectation set by Wicked as They Come. I personally felt like this one was a bit rushed to completion and it made for some story-line choices that were just odd and/or didn't quite seem to fit right (to me anyway).

Letitia brings her dying grandmother over into Sang; grandma is made into a Bludwoman and immediately becomes ruthless and horribly self-absorbed. She leaves the caravan that same night (seeming of her own volition) possibly along with the strong-man who has suddenly gone missing as well. Letitia becomes obsessed with finding her (OBSESSED I tell you!); but before she leaves the caravan to search for and "rescue" her once grandma (whom she is convinced is way too naive to be on her own), she is attacked by one of the carnival attractions and is pretty much doomed. Despite insistent explanation about why Letitia does not want to leave her human self behind and be bludded during the first part of the book, to save her life, Criminy turns her into a Bludwoman... She's cool with it.

Where do we go from here? Well clearly the old gypsy witch from the first book is ultimately to blame for all of this drama, so Letitia decides to hunt her down and exact revenge while searching for granny. In the process, Criminy gets into a fight and appears to be mortally injured, so she leaves him with caregivers and decides to find the witch herself. She does so rather easily and as it turns out, the witch is a great, great, aunt (or some such) of Letitia's, and Letitia's incredibly narcissistic once-grandmother just happens to be hanging out with good-old great aunt gypsy in her cave lair. Oh, and the missing strong-man is with her; as apparently in the one night that Letitia's grandmother was in the caravan the two fell deeply, madly in love and ran away together. (okay, sure...) They have odd outbursts of awkward argument and confusion, then suddenly Criminy is there and facing off with a bitter ex-girlfriend in a violent encounter in the cave. (Because she just happened to be there with the gypsy witch as part of a plot against Criminy.)

Things happen, gypsy is defeated, and Letitia's nanny decides to stay behind as the heir to the gypsy witch's magic. (Because that is her destiny.) Letitia and Criminy go back home, and they all live happily ever after.

...and I'm going "huh?" I feel like there could have been so much more to that setup.
This is the final book in the Blud series and takes place after all the other books and novellas in this series. The story between Tish and Crim picks up where it left off in Wicked as They Come, with Tish refusing to become a Bludman because she wants to continue being able to visit her grandmother on Earth. Unfortunately this traveling between worlds has cursed Tish to age years for every day she’s away and she is quickly becoming an old woman.

I loved Criminy and his patience and determination with Tish. He is determined for her to come to terms with turning into a Bludman on her own and deals with her aging gracefully.

I found Tish to be rather irritating in the beginning of this book; with her grandmother in Sang Tish has absolutely no reason not to become Bludded yet she stubbornly hangs on to her humanity and makes life miserable for all. I also thought her expectations regarding her grandmother were a bit irritating as well. Her character takes a turn for the better in the 2nd half of the book. However, I still wonder what Criminy sees in her at times.

I love the world of Sang and am sad that there won’t be more books set here. I actually thought both the love scenes and the fight scenes were better written in this book than they were in the other full length Blud novels. Dawson seems to write excellent short stories and novellas; but when it comes to full length books her stories can lag a bit and that was not the case in this story.

Overall this was a well done story and very entertaining. It brings nice closure to the Blud series and I enjoyed it a lot. I will miss this world and I will miss the dashingly handsome and wicked Criminy Stain.
