Little Deaths A Novel Emma Flint Books

I grew up blocks from this woman, and, like Kitty Genovese, it was a story that riveted the city and frightened children and parents everywhere. To this day it haunts. I read each page of this book as if I was back there, when men drove by and flashed kids from cars, neighbors listened to one another fight through walls, gossip and innuendo was judge and jury, convicting one in a final judgement made by neighbors perched on lawn chairs, and a single mother was a "Gay Divorcee" with all that implied. It was a dismal time. For those who think it it was a "better time", the "Good Old Days", it's an utter outright lie that gave rise to the sixties, when myths were destroyed and the truth began to take its own toll. This book may seem tedious to some, but that itself is an honest representation that depicts the tone of the time.

Little Deaths A Novel Emma Flint Books Reviews

I enjoyed reading this story. Very sad and the poor children paid the price. I liked the way it ended so there could be closure of sorts. How sad for all involved.
I kept waiting for a climatic story turning point, but by the time it came, I no longer cared enough about the characters to wish any of them a good outcome.
This storyline is a page turner, it made me angry how this could still happen today, to stereotype women, wether it be in 1964 or 2017, people are still too quick to judge thy neighbor. Good read, but no an HEA!
I'm not sure if I liked it or not. I had a hard time always following the timeline. And sometimes I think Pete was just imaging stuff. I really just seemed to not be able follow everything. And then the subject of dead children is very disturbing. I am going to have to stick with a 3 leaning toward 2.
The plot and style dragged me into story, and the characters provided the finishing tug. I can easily imagine this tale on a crime TV series. No One is a saint, and everyone is guilty or a victim or both. The
Ending is satisfying. But the remaining question is are we all as the sinners all presented in this novel?
As a mystery, thriller, suspense etc fan my expectations for each book I read are pretty high and while there were poly issues with the writing (among other issues) the story itself was sufficiently intriguing to keep me reading until the end. Although I would have preferred to be able to give it a 3.5 rating I 'rounded up' .5 point because the ending didn't disappoint. I may be reaching a bit but, IMHO the deftness with which the author ensured that each of the main character's storylines would conclude with such irony, really made this a satisfying read.
I felt like this was a risky read when I bought it - Good reviews, but the kind of book I'm often disappointed by. This, however, was very well done. The author executed the did-she-or-didn't-she plotline in a compelling way, provided the significant clue (which I noticed, but did not reason out to its logical conclusion), and avoided the temptation for a trite ending. The major characters are not lovable, but have enough humanity to make you care what happens to them. Recommended.
