Castle Waiting Linda Medley Books
I have waited a long time for this continuation of a story and a cast of characters that I love. It did not disappoint, but boy did it leave me high and dry at the end. There is no ending to speak of; it feels as though the story arc just slipped out of the book.I understand that there was some flak between Medley and the publisher, and I am so distressed to hear that. The woman won an Eisner Award for Best Ongoing Story for the Castle Waiting series. I have no idea what happened at Fantagraphics, but this author deserves more then the average dose of love from her publisher.
I am also hearing rumors that Ms. Medley has taken a step back from this series. I would doubt she reads these little blurbs, but I do beseech her to consider her loyal fans--especially those of us who are content to quietly wait--and not abandon the story! The two volumes of Castle Waiting are among my most prized books, and I return to them often for the joy of the story and the light sweetness of the tale.
Castle Waiting is a treasure. If you agree, please pipe up with a review of your own!

Castle Waiting Linda Medley Books Reviews
I’m really impressed with the fantasy in the book. I seriously didn’t expect the elements I would find in it. I’m definitely getting the next book!
I seriously love this series. I wish Medley would continue it!
She has written a wonderfully, and beautifully illustrated story. It's too bad she didn't have the funds to continue. This beats most "mainline" Comics.
Linda Medley creates wonderfully written, beautifully drawn characters that live off the page. The world of Castle Waiting is a world one wishes actually existed in a place and time we humans were able to visit.
The second volume has a slower pace than the first, but it is filled with delicious detail, character development (the Tolly-Simon friendship, more about Iron Henry, and Jain's childhood), and tempting, teasing hints about what the future stories may bring (Hammerling espionage, what happened to the Leshies, etc.). Being a fan of her work is sometimes like being a fan of George R. R. Martin (they are both rich fantasy worlds), however-- you wind up waiting for a long time. I personally find it worth the wait, but I sure hope Linda Medley gives her fans more stories soon!
I checked out the first volume of Castle Waiting from the library many years ago based on seeing it recommended so often on a female-reader-centric comics website, and I enjoyed it a good bit. Recently I checked the shelf for it again and was very pleased to see a volume two. After checking that out, I ordered both volumes for myself, and after a month they haven't left my bedside table.
It's really kind of unprecedented for me, actually; I love to reread my favorites, but I don't think I've ever read and reread the same two volumes over and over for an entire month before. I just keep looking at all the details, trying to figure out hints of what's gonna happen, enjoying the interplay of the characters - there's just something about a book that isn't afraid to take the plot slow and just bring you into the lives of the people in it, so that when something big does occur, you're really, really invested in it.
And that's the way I feel now, so much so that I'm certainly not going to wait for the next complete volume, but plan to buy the issues as they come, whenever they do. (I hope that I'll be able to find out when that is, though, and where to get them!) As an artist myself, who's been working on the same project with the same characters for many years (and just as a hobby, so without any pressure), I still understand the need for a hiatus to keep the interest fresh. I just hope, like other reviewers, that it isn't a really long hiatus before we get a taste of more!
It was a long wait for the continuation of the fabulous Castle Waiting. Long live Linda Medley, but I have to say volume 2 felt like a rush job, none of the leisurely pace of back and side stories in Volume 1. Yes, We did learn more about Iron Heinrich, Dr. Fell and Dinah, but in a few scant pages, as opposed to the chapters devoted to Sister Peaceful and the Solistine Order. I loved all the tales in Volume 1, so I hate to say it, Volume 2 was a bit of a disappointment, even with the reappearance of characters like Jain's family. Volume 2 is filled with tantalizing teasers - suddenly Jain's betrothed Tylo is more sympathetic, and the identity of little Pindar's father grows ever more intriguing. I fear that the wait for Volume 3 will be as long as the wait for Volume 2!
I agree with my fellow reviewers - why is the auhtor's name relegated to a minimal place? Why is there no introduction? It seems that the publishers skimped on a lot of the love that was put into Volume 1.
This is one of the best books I've ever read. I found myself thinking about the characters as if they were real people. They're fictional, but they have the same problems that real people have. Soon you stop thinking of the characters as make-believe and supernatural, and you start thinking about them as if you really knew them. You see all kinds of human traits and behavior in this book---compassion, malice, friendship, loyalty, anger, innocence, homesickness, crying, joy, etc. Don't be fooled by the fact that one character has a beak, one has hooves, one has the face of a cat, one has only a head and two feet, some characters are giants, some are dwarves, etc. You'll soon be thinking of all the characters as human.
